Ilana Zaks and Alexa Patrick to Perform at Guilford Art Center During Festival

As part of our inaugural partnership with Guilford Art Center, violinist Ilana Zaks (recipient of our 2022 Artists’ Award in Music) and poet/singer/spoken word artist/author Alexa Patrick will perform at GAC on Monday, September 18. They’ll perform a program of violin-and-spoken-word duets, interpreting selected works in the Guilford Art League’s annual juried exhibition.

Zaks, who recently joined the Seattle Symphony as section violinist, is an innovative, classically trained and immensely curious violinist from Boston who performs traditional concert repertoire while also embracing other arts, technology and multimedia in her work. She had her symphonic debut with the Boston Civic Symphony at age 11, studied with Itzhak Perlman for seven years and has performed on the stages of Symphony Hall and Harvard University's Sanders Theater in Boston, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Berliner Philharmonie, The Concertgebouw, Valladolid National Concert Hall and Smetana Hall.

Patrick, who grew up in Madison and lives in Washington, D.C., holds fellowships from Cave Canem, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and more, and is the programs director for Shout Mouse Press. She’ll make her stage production debut this spring as Un/Sung in the opera We Shall Not Be Moved, directed by Kennedy Center honors awardee Bill T. Jones. We’re excited to welcome her back to the Shoreline!
