The A.W. Cox Elementary School Howlers in rehearsal

GreenStage Guilford Live Arts presents the 20-piece A.W. Cox Elementary School Howlers steel drum ensemble plus Cox music teacher Russ Kleiner’s jazz and soul band at The Marketplace at Guilford Food Center, on Saturday, March 8. Tickets are $10 and go on public sale February 8.

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. Small-plate meals, a full bar and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds—including a percentage of sales of a special Howlers’ non-alcoholic “mocktail” created just for the night—will go toward production of GreenStage’s 2025 Live Arts Festival, scheduled for August 10-17 centered on the Guilford Green.

The Howlers are the musical ambassadors for Guilford’s A.W. Cox Elementary School. This fantastic group of fourth-grade musicians delights audiences with their performance of popular and multicultural songs on the steelpan—a traditional instrument of Trinidad and Tobago popular throughout the Caribbean.

The Russ Kleiner Quintet plays standards and popular songs and features some of New Haven’s finest jazz and soul musicians. In a 20-year career as a professional musician, bandleader and drummer Kleiner has performed, toured and recorded with world-class musicians including blues legend Curtis Salgado and slide guitar/banjo wizard Tony Furtado. Other members are Ari Sadowitz on bass, Fred DiLeone on keyboards, Erik Elligers on sax and John Panos on trumpet.

Tickets are available online at greenstageguilford.org.

Special thanks to the Guilford Fund for Education, which enabled the purchase of the steel drums; and the Guilford Foundation, Town of Guilford and Community Foundation for Greater Foundation for generously funding GreenStage.
