GreenStage begins what we hope will be a long-lasting and creative partnership with the Guilford Art Center on Monday, September 18, with the performance of AlexIlana/Synesthesia, featuring poet and singer Alexa Patrick and violinist Ilana Zaks at the art center. The show starts at 7 p.m. Their performance will be in response to works currently hanging in the Guilford Art League’s 75th Annual Juried Exhibition and Sale. Patrick, of Washington, D.C., and Zaks, of Seattle, have been collaborating remotely and will perform together in person for the first time just before the show.
Synesthesia refers to what happens when the brain processes sensory information in unorthodox ways, causing people to experience more than one sense simultaneously—such as hearing colors or seeing sounds. We’ll reverse the process next weekend, Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24, when the art center will supply materials and instructors to guide audience members in making art in response to festival performances.
